Special recognition awards

We have established special awards to recognize people who do not fall into the category of players and coaches but still provided valuable contributions to sports in Scott County.

Sid Salter Sports Contributor award

Recognition program honors non-athletes' contributions

While coaches and players receive the majority of attention in competitive team and individual sports, there are others who provide valuable support to sports programs behind the scenes as well as visible at competitions and in our communities.

In our effort to recognize those who go above and beyond for our athletic programs, we have established the Sid Salter Sports Contributor Award to bring attention to the people who spend hours and much effort in support of our coaches and athletes.

The award is named for the former publisher and owner of The Scott County Times, Sid Salter, who covered athletics for multiple decades and made sure that our coaches and athletes were recognized in the local newspaper. Through his efforts of promotion, much progress was made for our athletic programs.

This award will be available annually when a nominee is deemed to have met all of the required criteria for selection - primarily having contributed to the sports of Scott County though not as an athlete or coach. The nominee will have strong involvement in promoting Scott County sports in areas including, but not limited to, the following roles:

1. Public Address Announcer

2. Sports Broadcaster

3. Newspaper Sports Reporter

4. Sideline Volunteer

5. Booster Club with long term volunteerism

6. Any other area the selection committee, by vote, may determine eligibility

Candidates for this award must be presented through the normal nomination process required of all other nominees submitted.  For more information, Click HERE.

A plaque will be awarded during the annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Recipients shall be deemed members of the Scott County Sports Hall of Fame with all rights and privileges that such membership grants.

After the introduction of the award in 2026, no more than two persons shall be named sports contributor each year.

Names of each recipient will be listed here, but their information will be listed with the member profiles in the corresponding year class.

Sportsmanship award

Program honors athletes and coaches for sportsmanship

The Hall of Fame instituted its first Sportsmanship Award in 2025 which honors and recognizes athletes and coaches for displays of sportsmanship during competition. The award will not necessarily be given every year, but will be granted when the HOF is made aware of an occasion where the award would apply.

Names of each recipient will be listed here, but their information will be listed with the member profiles in the corresponding year class.

Sometimes winning is not the most important achievement even during competition between bitter rival schools. The first award was shared between Jaycee Mitchell of Lake (Hornets) and Clara Grace Rogers of Morton in recognizing their act of sportsmanship and compassion during a cross country competition. Class of 2025

lifetime special recognition award

When it was created, the Hall of Fame included a general lifetime special recognition award in 2015 which honors and recognizes persons to contributed to sports programs although they were not actually an athlete or coach. This was the precursor to what eventually became the Sid Salter Sports Contributor Award.

Names of each recipient will be listed here, but their information will be listed with the member profiles in the corresponding year class. Click on the name to visit profile page.
